This is one of the most beautiful field ranges I’ve visited. Engaging, challenging and interesting shots, beautiful scenery, very nicely laid out.

Our Club
The Briones Archery Club welcomes archers of all levels to enjoy our scenic 3D range in the East Bay hills. With well-maintained trails and a natural setting, our Monday Night 3D Shoots have become a favorite tradition.
Wildlife sightings are common throughout the range — deer, turkeys, coyotes, and even quail are frequent visitors, especially between targets 1 and 2 on the upper course. The trail offers a mix of open hillsides and wooded creek beds, making every visit a unique experience.
Built and Maintained by Members
Our range doesn’t run on its own — it’s built, maintained, and improved entirely by club volunteers. Every target bale is handcrafted by members, from collecting donated carpet to constructing wooden bases, compressing the cores, and hauling them up the trail.
This DIY spirit is the heart of Briones Archers, and we welcome members who want to contribute and learn..

Events & Community
We’ve got some fantastic shoots this year — check the Events page for the full schedule. Our Monday Night Shoots feature 16 unmarked 3D targets placed in natural terrain. Each week is a fresh challenge designed to sharpen your skills for hunting season. Bring extra arrows!
We also travel to other local clubs and tournaments — a great way to meet other archers and stay active in the broader California archery community. (See a full listing of regional shoots at CBH/SAA.)
Our History
Briones Regional Park was created in 1964 through a visionary lease agreement with EBMUD, preserving vital watershed land for public enjoyment. Since then, it’s become a haven for outdoor lovers, including archers.
The Briones Archery Club was established in the late 1960s, evolving from the original Roving Archers Club of El Sobrante. Founding members like Bob and Millie Dean, Faye and Smitty Smith, and Vern Thompson dedicated themselves to creating a permanent archery home.
Back then, volunteers gathered donations, built targets from scratch, and cleared poison oak-lined trails with nothing but hand tools and determination. Their goal was simple: to build a place where archers could shoot, connect, and take pride in what they created.
When the original range was lost to development, they didn’t give up. Instead, younger members like Morris Abbott, Bernie Shapiro, and Dennis Duffy helped relocate the club to Briones Park — where it thrives today.
